Multiple Sclerosis
MS Treatments
There is no known cure for multiple sclerosis; however, there are many treatments that limit new disease activity and control symptoms. These treatments are called disease modifying treatments (DMTs) and their goal is to prevent relapses that can lead to worsening disease and injury. These DMTs include:
- Self-injectable therapies
- Oral therapies
- Intravenous infusions such as monoclonal antibody therapies
Many of the symptoms of MS can be controlled or even eliminated via symptomatic treatment. These may include treatments to relieve muscles spasms, urinary dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, fatigue associated with MS, and mood disorders. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise and nutrition programs may be helpful to controlling symptoms.
