Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program
Our business is in unleashing human potential and our investment exists in human capital
Welcome to the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine Division of Cardiovascular Sciences Fellowship Training Program in Cardiovascular Disease.
The University of South Florida has achieved the special designation as a “Pre-eminent” university in the State of Florida university system on the basis of its research, education, and service missions. The University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine is a top fifty tier status of colleges and schools of medicine in the country which coincides with our Program’s ascension to excellence in graduate medical education and training. In this setting, cardiovascular disease fellowship training is deeply empowered by our Program’s academic medical system affiliation with Tampa General Hospital, a greater than 1,000 bed tertiary and quaternary referral, urban core safety net hospital which serves the west central coast of Florida, the James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital, one of the largest VA systems in the country, and Moffitt Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This poly-institutional matrix provides the platform that consummates our Division’s commitment to develop present and next generation cardiologists who shall lead in their academic or communal health care systems. The Heart Institute embedded in the newly minted and occupied Medical School complex is comprised of 15 NIH funded scientists who bring a unique bench to bedside, and back to bench translational pathway.
We believe and act upon a collaborative and collegial ideal in a psychologically safe ecology in our clinics, on the wards, in procedural suites and in our classrooms with the fellow professor dyad as the keystone. An environment of inquiry exists to maximize the learning of our craft and to derive medically scientific next level questions for research and implementation. From clinical competency to critical appraisal,” know-do” and follow through innovation is our aim to fulfill personal professional development within the envelope of inter-professional team and system-based care. Our environment in cardiovascular disease training is enriched by a broad and deep advanced fellowship training complement including Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Interventional Cardiology, Advanced Cardiac Imaging, and Cardio-Oncology. This cascade in continuity of advanced sub-disciplined training enhances the general cardiology experience while offering a sampling of future career choice.
Our business is in unleashing human potential and our investment exists in human capital - the fellows, faculty, and staff that allow for best in the nation training and world class care. In this matrixed environment accompanied by culture, engagement and enrichment we invite you to visit and join us to become perpetual learners and expert cardiologists.
