Our Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Division is dedicated to advancing the clinical integration, education, and scholarship of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in emergency medicine.

Our division offers comprehensive postgraduate training through our EUFACS-accredited Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship. Fellows gain extensive hands-on experience across the full spectrum of core emergency ultrasound applications while developing expertise in advanced techniques such as resuscitative transesophageal echocardiography (rTEE), musculoskeletal ultrasound, regional anesthesia, and other ultrasound-guided diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Fellows work closely with experienced emergency ultrasound faculty and have opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with specialists in sports medicine, cardiac anesthesia, cardiology, trauma, and other clinical services. Training incorporates extensive clinical practice, ultrasound quality assurance, research, curriculum development, and interdepartmental education.

Our division utilizes state-of-the-art ultrasound technology and a cloud-based image archiving and quality assurance platform to support clinical care, education, and continuous program improvement. We also utilize wireless handheld ultrasound devices that expand POCUS beyond the walls of the emergency department, including community outreach and educational opportunities such as the USF medical student-run Care Clinic for newcomers to the country.

In addition to their clinical and educational responsibilities, members of the division participate in regional and national ultrasound courses, conferences, and collaborative initiatives. Through partnerships with specialists and leading institutions, fellows and faculty have access to unique opportunities for advanced procedural training and interdisciplinary education.

The division is also actively engaged in clinical research, quality improvement, and the development of emerging applications in emergency ultrasound. Through a combination of advanced clinical training, educational leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, technological innovation, and scholarship, our goal is to train the next generation of POCUS leaders while advancing the role of ultrasound in emergency care.
