Dr. Janice C. Zgibor is Dean and Professor at the USF Health Taneja College of Pharmacy and serves as Senior Associate Vice President of USF Health. A distinguished academic leader, she brings extensive experience guiding complex, interdisciplinary programs across the health sciences, with a strong record of advancing academic innovation, student success and faculty development.  

Dr. Zgibor’s career spans more than two decades of leadership in higher education, public health, and clinical research. Prior to her appointment as dean, she served in multiple senior leadership roles at USF, including Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs in the College of Public Health and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at USF Health. Her leadership has been instrumental in strengthening academic programs, enhancing accreditation efforts and aligning institutional strategy with evolving workforce and educational needs.  

An accomplished scholar, Dr. Zgibor holds a BS in Pharmacy, a Master of Public Health and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh, where she also completed a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism. Her interdisciplinary training bridges pharmacy, epidemiology and population health, informing a research portfolio focused on diabetes, chronic disease prevention, pharmacoepidemiology and health outcomes. 

Dr. Zgibor has led and collaborated on numerous federally and foundation-funded research projects and has authored an extensive body of peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and scholarly works. Her research has contributed to improved models of chronic disease care, particularly in diabetes prevention and management, and she has been recognized with multiple awards for research excellence, mentorship and community engagement.  

Equally committed to education, Dr. Zgibor is a dedicated mentor and educator who has guided more than 80 graduate students including masters and doctoral trainees. Her teaching and mentorship emphasize translational science, interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world impact. She is widely respected for fostering the next generation of public health and healthcare leaders.  

Nationally and internationally, Dr. Zgibor has contributed to professional organizations, editorial boards and advisory panels, including service as an associate editor for Preventing Chronic Disease and as a reviewer for major funding agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the American Diabetes Association. 

As dean, Dr. Zgibor is dedicated to advancing the College of Pharmacy’s mission in education, research and clinical practice while strengthening interdisciplinary partnerships across USF Health and beyond.
