USF Southeast Consortium for Occupational Risk and Engagement
Programs
Sunshine Education and Research Center (ERC)
Building the Occupational Safety and Health Workforce of Tomorrow
The Sunshine ERC serves as SCORE’s primary research and academic education component. Through graduate education, interdisciplinary research, continuing education, and outreach, the ERC prepares the next generation of occupational safety and health professionals. As part of SCORE, the ERC connects research and education with employers, stakeholders, and training programs to support the translation of research into practice and strengthen opportunities for collaboration, workforce development, and future partnerships.
USF OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC)
Delivering OSHA-Authorized Safety and Health Training
The USF OTIEC serves as SCORE’s professional training component, providing OSHA-authorized occupational safety and health training for employers, workers, and safety professionals throughout OSHA’s Atlanta Region. Through professional development, continuing education, and regulatory training, OTIEC supports workforce competency and connects training with research findings, academic programs, employer consultation services, and regional stakeholder engagement.
USF SafetyFlorida Consultation Program
Bringing Workplace Safety Solutions Directly to Employers
USF SafetyFlorida serves as SCORE’s direct practice and employer engagement component, offering confidential, no-cost consultations to help employers identify hazards, improve safety management systems, and protect workers. Through direct engagement with employers, SafetyFlorida brings real-world workplace safety needs and emerging risks to SCORE while connecting employers with research expertise, specialized training, academic partners, and workforce development resources.
-
The strength of SCORE lies in the integration of its three programs.
Program
Primary Function
Role Within SCORE
Sunshine ERC
Research & Academic Education
Generates research and knowledge that informs training, consultation, and workforce development
USF OTIEC
Workforce Development
Translates research and knowledge into professional and OSHA-authorized training
USF SafetyFlorida
Employer Consultation
Applies research and training directly in workplaces while bringing real-world workplace needs back to the consortium
Together, these programs create a continuous cycle of research, training, workplace implementation, and feedback that strengthens occupational safety and health research and practice.
-
SCORE provides a single point of connection for employers, government agencies, labor organizations, industry partners, and community stakeholders to access the full range of USF occupational safety and health expertise. Rather than navigating three separate programs, stakeholders can engage with one consortium that coordinates research, education, training, and consultation resources to address workplace safety and health challenges throughout the Southeast.
-
SCORE creates a single point of access to the full breadth of USF's occupational safety and health expertise. Instead of engaging separate programs independently, stakeholders can access an integrated network offering:
Research and evidence-based solutions
Academic and professional education
OSHA-authorized training
Employer consultation services
Regional partnerships and stakeholder engagement
Through this coordinated approach, SCORE seeks to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses, strengthen the occupational safety and health workforce, and improve worker well-being across the Southeast.
