Application Requirements & Process

All Applicants:

All applicants must meet University requirements (see Graduate Admissions ). The following materials will need to be submitted to SOPHAS applications for the College of Public Health:

  • A statement of purpose and objectives. 
  • A resume or curriculum vitae.
  • A minimum of two letters (Master's program applicants), three letters (doctoral program applicants) of recommendation of a professional or academic nature. Refer to your degree type to see if additional letters of recommendation are required.
  • Applicants to the Public Health graduate programs are not required to submit GRE test scores. However, if you believe your test scores have the potential to strengthen your application, you may send your GRE test scores to ETS code 4224.

PhD applicants:

  • A detailed statement of purpose of less than five pages that describes why you wish to obtain a doctoral degree in public health.
  • A writing sample (graduate level term paper, thesis, research paper, article where applicant is first author).  

DrPH applicants

  • A detailed statement of purpose of less than five pages that describes why you wish to obtain a doctoral degree in public health.
  • A Statement of Public Health Experience with a maximum of 750 words.

Upload both statements as one document in the Statement of Purpose and Objectives document type or the second document under "other document type".

International applicants:

  • Official TOEFL scores (Applicants whose native language is not English or who have not earned a degree in the United States must also submit TOEFL scores earned within two (2) years of the desired term of entry). Have official TOEFL scores sent to institution code: 5828 - SOPHAS. For details on USF Requirements see the USF Catalog Admissions Page and the USF Office of Admissions International Students page .
  • World Education Services (WES) ICAP Course-by-Course Evaluation of all foreign degree transcripts sent directly to SOPHAS from WES. Exception to the WES evaluation requirement may be made on a case by case basis by Graduate Admissions at the USF's College of Public Health, If WES is unable to evaluate an applicant's transcripts, and such proof is submitted.

Below is the Application Process Outline:

  1. Complete a SOPHAS application and submit all required application materials to SOPHAS.
  2. Allow two to four weeks for SOPHAS to verify the application.
  3. Complete and submit the USF application and fee. Do not upload or submit any application materials directly to USF. All application materials must be submitted only to SOPHAS.
  4. Monitor your email for application decisions and other communications.
