Research Interests

  • Opioid use disorder is a devastating chronic illness, yet the majority of patients receive no treatment. There are tremendous barriers for patients trying to access care, especially for those seeking medication-based treatment. Dr. Coon is interested in identifying and correcting treatment barriers and disparities caused by state/federal regulations, healthcare systems, stigma, and misinformation. Dr. Coon is also interested in the role of the pharmacist in the opioid epidemic and the spread of evidence-based harm reduction strategies. Dr. Coon's current research interests: Substance Use Disorders / Opioid Use Disorder, primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, healthcare disparities.
