Frontline Nursing

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted a nursing workforce that is already faced with widespread stress, health and wellness problems, burnout, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and increased rates of suicide. Particularly, nurses today deal with unprecedented challenges including fragmented education, shifting protocols, and fear of exposure to COVID-19. More than 77,800 health care workers have tested positive for COVID-19, and the nation’s largest nurse’s union totals nurse fatalities at 939. The pandemic has also increased the burden on clinical sites to train new graduate and novice nurses in caring for patients with COVID-19 and ensure competency regarding the use of personal protective equipment; 68% of nurses reported putting the health, safety, and wellness of their patients before their own.

Thanks to Sarasota, Florida philanthropists David Kotok and Christine Schlesinger, the USF College of Nursing has launched a four-part educational webinar series Frontline Nursing During COVID-19: A New Paradigm. The series is designed to provide frontline nurses with the tools needed to empower them to advocate for their safety and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. A maximum of 4.0 contact hours may be earned by learners who successfully complete this continuing nursing education activity.

USF Health is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
