Nursing Preceptor Tuition Waiver Program

Tuition Waivers for Eligible Nursing Preceptors

The USF College of Nursing recognizes the valuable contributions of preceptors who support the education and clinical development of future nurses and nurse practitioners. Eligible preceptors may receive a tuition waiver certificate for up to six credit hours in recognition of their service. Your clinical teaching contributions can support your own educational goals. Review the benefits and guidelines below to see whether you qualify and how you can use the tuition waiver.

This program is generously offered by the State University System of Florida, per Board of Governors Regulation 7.008, Waivers and Exemptions of Tuition and Fees.

Preceptor Tuition Waiver Form

    • Complete 300 hours of direct supervision of USF nursing students. Hours may be accumulated across one or multiple semesters and with one or more students.

    • At least 100 direct contact hours must be completed in each semester for those hours to count toward the 300-hour requirement.

    • Maintain documentation:

      • Undergraduate preceptors: Keep a log documenting the student's name, total hours precepted, course number (if available), and start and end dates.

      • Graduate preceptors: Retain the preceptor verification letters distributed by the College each semester. You can find these in your email by searching for something from support@medatrax.com with the subject line “Thank you for precepting - for your records”. Be sure to check your spam folder.

    • Submit documentation through the Preceptor Tuition Waiver Form once 300 qualifying hours have been completed. Required documents include:

      • Current CV

      • Copy of current professional license

      • Undergraduate preceptors: Copy of student hour log

Processing time: Please allow 4–6 weeks to receive your completed certificate.

Certificate Benefits

  • Tuition waiver: Up to six credit hours of credit instruction during a single term at a state university in Florida.

  • Certificate validity: Three years from the date of issuance.
