Medical Van

The Health Equality and Linkage Project (H.E.L.P.) Medical Van allows TBSM to provide our servicers to patients in some of the Tampa Bay Area’s most underserved communities. This project started in 2017 in partnership with the Pioneer Medial Group Foundation with the sole purpose of expanding free and affordable healthcare to the underprivileged of Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties.

Structure

The Medical Van is staffed by a full-time nurse practitioner provided by Pioneer Medical Group and medical student volunteers. Services offered include acute and preventative care, vaccinations, prescription and over-the-counter medications, and point-of-care laboratory testing. The Medical Van is also the site for the Tampa IDEA Exchange, a joint operation between several Tampa organizations that supports patients dealing with addiction. The IDEA Exchange offers free, anonymous HIV and Hepatitis C testing, rapid referrals for addiction treatment, and access to free, clean needles.
