Two residents are assigned to Tampa General Hospital for a night float call system. The resident team provides coverage for Tampa General Hospital and teleradiology coverage for the Moffitt and VA hospitals. Residents rotate on two-week blocks beginning Sunday evening, with the TGH resident working from 7:00 pm to approximately 7:00 am the following morning. The Moffitt/VA resident works from 8:00 pm to approximately 8:00 am. The night residents receive Saturday night off. R2-R4 residents will work a total of 4 weeks of night float in the academic year, split between 2 blocks. An attending is always available in house for resident support.
Weekend call (Saturday, Saturday night, and Sunday) is covered in three 12-hour shifts by the general resident pool. Residents begin the night float rotations after completing 12 months of diagnostic radiology training.
There is no night call for residents rotating at All Children's Hospital or the Bay Pines VA Hospital.
Prior to taking call, R1 residents will complete all core rotations and attend an R1 boot camp call primer session.
