Welcome from the Chair, Krishna Nallamshetty, MD, FACR
Welcome to the USF Department of Radiology. This is an exciting time for our department, USF Health, and Tampa General Hospital. Together, we are building an academic imaging enterprise defined by clinical excellence, discovery, innovation, and the training of the next generation of radiologists.
Our greatest strength is the breadth of our academic health system. Through our partnership with Tampa General Hospital—our primary teaching affiliate—and our relationships with Moffitt Cancer Center, the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System, and Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, our faculty and trainees work across an extraordinary spectrum of adult and pediatric radiology. This integrated environment gives us the clinical depth, multidisciplinary expertise, and scale to care for complex patients while advancing the practice of radiology.
We are equally proud of our educational mission. Our residency and fellowship programs combine diverse case pathology, broad subspecialty experience, daily faculty mentorship, and training across multiple distinguished institutions. Our residents have achieved a consistent 100% board pass rate, reflecting both the caliber of our trainees and the commitment of our faculty to teaching.
Research and innovation are accelerating across the department. Our faculty currently support 13 NIH-sponsored studies and more than 160 active clinical trials across the Tampa General Hospital clinical network. Our functional MRI program grew 38% year over year during January–August 2026, while our multidisciplinary research team is expanding collaborations in neuroscience, engineering, advanced imaging, and other fields. Our Department's 3D Medical Visualization and Printing Lab is translating imaging data into patient-specific models for surgical planning, procedural simulation, education, and clinical innovation—an example of how academic medicine can move ideas directly from discovery to patient care.
The future of radiology will be shaped by advanced imaging, artificial intelligence, precision medicine, image-guided therapy, and new ways of turning imaging data into actionable knowledge. At USF Radiology, our goal is not simply to keep pace with that future, but to help define it. We are investing in the people, programs, partnerships, and technologies that will expand our impact locally, nationally, and internationally.
Most importantly, our department is built on a culture of collaboration. Radiology touches nearly every aspect of modern medicine, and our success depends on working closely with colleagues across specialties, scientists and engineers, learners, and our health-system partners—all united by a commitment to better care for our patients and communities.
Whether you are a patient, learner, researcher, referring physician, or prospective faculty member, I invite you to explore USF Radiology and discover the opportunities within our department.
We are proud of what we have built, energized by our momentum, and even more excited about what comes next. Together, we are shaping the future of medical imaging.
