Pathology and Cell Biology
Anne Champeaux, MD
Chair, MCOM Department of Pathology and Cell Biology
On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students, I want to welcome you to the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine. The Department plays a critical role in the education of our future doctors enrolled in the College. Course work in the Department makes up clinically relevant biomedical content along with the several disciplines that have traditionally been taught in medical schools. For our department, these areas include both anatomy and pathology. Departmental faculty is dedicated to excellence in teaching and has been repeatedly ranked among the best by students in the College.
On this website, you will find information on our teaching, research, clinical practice, and academic activities including profiles of faculty, their areas of expertise, and a link to their CVs. The mission of the department is to strive for excellence in teaching, research, academic service and patient care. Through its academic components of Anatomy and Pathology the Department bridges both basic and clinical knowledge and provides the bridge from basic laboratory discoveries to the improvements in patient care and treatment.
Instructional programs in the Department include teaching medical students, graduate students in master’s and doctoral programs and post-doctoral fellows. The department also has a residency program in pathology for physicians seeking further specialized training. An advanced fellowship program is also provided to physicians seeking additional subspecialty training. Extramurally funded basic and translational research is focused on ovarian and lung cancer molecular biology with additional areas of interest in the neurosciences, immunobiology, and imaging and virtual anatomy.
Clinical operations and training are provided in the Department and at affiliated institutions including Tampa General Hospital, the James A. Haley and Bay Pines Veterans Administration Hospitals, Florida Blood Services, All Children's Hospital, the Hillsborough Medical Examiner’s Office, and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, a NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. State-of-the-art clinical facilities at USF provide excellent patient care opportunities for our clinical faculty. Faculty with research and professional development interests can also pursue collaborations and involvement with the Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS).
I invite you to explore our website for information of interest to you. If you have need for additional information or would like personal contact, please feel free to contact me at achampea@usf.edu.
