Dr. Herazo-Maya received his Medicine degree from the University of Cartagena School of Medicine in Colombia. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Pittsburgh and his Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Universities of Pittsburgh and Yale. Throughout his residency and fellowship, he trained in functional genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics working under the mentorship of Dr. Naftali Kaminski. Dr. Herazo-Maya pioneered the application of precision medicine to identify molecular predictors of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and COVID-19 mortality. He joined the University of South Florida in 2021 as an Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine to establish the Ubben Program and Laboratory for Pulmonary Fibrosis Research, with the goal of discovering and translating novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of Pulmonary Fibrosis. He enjoys sports, fishing, and spending time with his family.
