Basic/Clinical Endocrinology seminar and Board Review

(Dr. Gomez-Daspet every Tuesday from 1:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.) The main goal and objective is to assist the trainees in the preparation for the Endocrine Board exam while covering high yield areas stressed on those exams.

Monthly Nuclear Medicine Conference

(3rd Monday of each month, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.) Conference given by Nuclear Medicine faculty members in the Tampa VA Hospital Nuclear Medicine Service in order to become familiar with principles of radioimmunoassay, thyroid imaging and uptake studies, total body radioactive iodine scanning, use of radioactive iodine for ablative therapy for thyroid cancer, radioactive imaging of other endocrine glands (e.g. parathyroid, adrenal), and other isotopic scanning, used to advance medical knowledge and to assess competency in knowledge, practice-based learning, and system-based practice.

Genetic conferences

(Dr. Bidot, weekly Tuesday 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.) The main goal is to develop a better understanding of the genetics problems (clinical, ethic, molecular) affecting the practice of endocrinology and to assess medical knowledge and critical review of medical literature.

Case Presentations and Round Table Discussions

(all faculties) weekly, every Thursday from 1:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. This is a very important activity in the curriculum, during this discussion we assess the trainees’ competency and provide feedback in core areas such as patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and experience, communication skill and system-based practice.

Medical Journal Club

(all faculty) monthly, the first Thursday of each month after case presentation, this is another important activity aimed to assess communication skill, medical knowledge, scholarly activity, practice-based learning and system-based learning, we have a paramount goal that the trainee become proficient in the critical assessment of medical literature.

Tumor Board Conference

(at Moffitt Cancer Center, Wednesday 11 a.m. to Noon). The Fellows are encouraged to go twice a month as permitted by their schedules; the Fellows can attend weekly. These activities are aimed to assess and enhance medical knowledge and improve their patient care ability in a more specialized area, which are Endocrine tumors and malignancies.

Core Curriculum Endocrine Conference

(Dr. Ganguly) weekly, every Tuesday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The main goal of these conferences is to advance the knowledge in core medical problems impacting clinical care in the endocrine practice.

USF Grand Rounds

The trainees are encouraged to participate in this educational experience. The main objective is to cover interdisciplinary topics not limited to ethical, socioeconomic, quality assessment, medical/legal and cost-containment issues affecting GME and medical practice.

Research conference

(monthly) These conferences are held on Tuesdays at noon, averaging one per month (12 total). The main objective of these conferences is to make the trainee aware of different research projects in our institution and to keep the trainee up to date in the progress of those researches. Also, to cover some areas of research important in their formation such as: research methodology, compliance, inform consent, and research protocol. The trainees are encouraged to participate in the research orientation conference provided by the VA Research Office and to take the online training in research ethics, research subjects and compliance, available at the VA as TEMPO hours.

Clinic Review Conference

(Dr. Morrison) weekly, every Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The main goal and objective is to advance the trainee's knowledge regarding common issues in the daily practice of clinical endocrinology.

Endocrine Noon Conference

Held every Tuesday, when research conferences are not presented. At these conferences invited speaker’s present lectures in areas requested by the Fellows, or areas that need to be addressed, controversial topics, or areas that need to be covered to fulfill ACGME requirements.
