Our Swallowing Center is oriented to manage difficult, complex or unusual swallowing disorders on a consultative basis such as: achalasia, Barrett esophagus, complex esophageal strictures, esophageal cancer, hypopharyngeal strictures, strokes and other muscle and nerve disorders that interfere with normal swallowing. The highly specialized technique of pharyngo-esophageal lumen restoration has been performed for over a decade by our staff.
Some of the special diagnostic tests provided by the Center include: endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), 24-hour pH testing, esophageal manometry, esophageal impedance, and the new technique of manofluoroscopy (simultaneous observation of pressure tracing and barium swallow study).
Collaborative consultative services can be arranged as needed onsite for patients with swallowing disorders by other consultants in radiology, neurology, otolaryngology (ear, nose & throat), and swallowing rehabilitation.
