Cost of Attendance
Morsani College of Medicine Doctor of Medicine (MD)
The Cost of Attendance (COA) is an estimate of educational expenses used to determine financial aid eligibility for a specific academic year. The COA includes both direct educational costs and indirect expenses associated with enrollment.
Planning for Educational Expenses
The Cost of Attendance is designed to assist students in planning for educational expenses throughout the academic year. While some students may incur costs that differ from the standard budget, the COA provides a consistent framework used to determine financial aid eligibility and establish borrowing limits.
2026–2027 Estimated Annual Cost of Attendance
The Cost of Attendance is used to determine the maximum amount of financial aid a student may be eligible to receive during an academic year.
The Cost of Attendance may include estimated expenses related to the following categories:
Tuition and fees
Housing and food
Books and supplies
Transportation
Personal expenses
Loan fees, if applicable
Important: The Cost of Attendance is an estimate and does not represent the amount students will be billed by the University. Actual expenses vary based on individual circumstances and enrollment decisions.
-
Tuition for Florida State Medical schools is a flat yearly rate, regardless of the actual hours a student is enrolled. Tuition and Fees are estimated in the Cost of Attendance using the prior aid year’s tuition and fees. For more information about tuition, fees, and payments, please visit the Registrar’s Tuition Information Page.
-
These are the cost estimates that the average student may incur during each year of enrollment in the Morsani College of Medicine. While actual expenses will vary among students, the estimated total cost of living will allow for a moderate standard of living. The calculation for housing expenses is one-half of the average rental rate, plus utilities for a two-bedroom apartment within a 10-mile radius of the downtown and Lehigh Valley locations. Students are expected to share living facilities to help reduce expenses. Students should budget and plan accordingly for expenses incurred during periods of non-enrollment.
-
Actual prices of required texts for each class are included. In addition, this component includes an allowance for tool kits and miscellaneous supplies. The cost for a computer/laptop is not included in the standard cost of attendance but can be included on a case-by-case basis. Students should contact the financial aid office to explore this option.
-
The estimated cost in this category includes expenses for entertainment, laundry, personal hygiene, medical and dental care, required immunizations, screenings, and background checks. It also covers the cost of required health and disability insurance. Additionally, expenses related to the U.S. Medical Licensing Examinations Step I & II, NRMP, and ERAS are included in the year they are incurred.
-
Commuting costs (to and from campus) are included in the transportation component. Travel costs to area hospitals and clinical sites are also included. The cost of parking downtown is also included in this category. A one-time Capstone travel cost of $1000 is included for SELECT year IV to offset the travel cost to Tampa for the Capstone Class.
-
Federal loan fees are determined based on the average fees incurred by similarly classified borrowers during the previous academic year. These fees will be added if the student borrows federal loans.
