Neuro-Ophthalmology

The word neuro by definition refers to the nerves and the central nervous system, and ophthalmology involves the physiology, anatomy and health of the eyeball. A neuro-ophthalmologist specializes in vision problems related to diseases of the nervous system and issues with eyesight that emit from the nerves.

Conditions treated by neuro-ophthalmologists include loss of vision due to trauma, strokes, infections, and toxicities. This specialty also treats those with double vision due to misalignment and those who experience problems with eye movement.

USF Health neuro-ophthalmologists are specially trained to diagnose and treat conditions associated with neurological and visual disorders.
