Faculty Development

The ETA staff is available to provide workshops on a variety of topics ranging from instructional pedagogy to Canvas tools to innovative uses of new technologies. Workshops are offered in an informal setting allowing faculty and instructional designers to discuss the appropriate uses of pedagogies and/or technologies in their courses. Information about upcoming faculty training opportunities are posted on ETA Faculty Central, ETA’s searchable SharePoint site for instructional support.

COPH faculty, adjunct instructors, and other instructors who need access to ETA Faculty Central may contact ETA to request access to the SharePoint site: eta@usf.edu.

  • Quality Matters (QM) is a faculty-centered, peer-review process designed to certify the quality of design of online or blended courses. The quality of design is measured using the QM rubric, developed from research, best practices and instructional design pedagogy. The QM rubric was created to help course developers, teachers, faculty, entire organizations and, most importantly, students. The standards in the rubric are intended to guide you through the development, evaluation and continuous improvement of your online and blended courses.

    To better support new COPH instructors, ETA offers Essentials for Teaching Online (ETO), a self-paced course that replaces the former Quality Matters APPQMR training and introduces faculty to ETA’s mission of supporting high-quality online education. All new COPH faculty teaching online are expected to complete ETO, and in-person instructors are encouraged to participate to strengthen their course design and teaching practices.

  • The COPH Undergraduate Teaching Circle is offered monthly during the fall and spring semesters to promote teaching-related knowledge and skills. Each month, a different topic or skill is addressed to encourage professional development of all undergraduate instructors and instructional support, including tenured faculty, instructors, doctoral student instructors and TAs. Collaborations thus far have included CITL, SAS, Innovative Education and ETA.

  • An interactive digital publication providing information on the latest trends and strategies in education. This resource will highlight exciting resources about pedagogical approaches for face-to-face and online teaching, faculty success stories related to technology and teaching strategies and updates to the tools you utilize in your courses.
