Biography

Dr. Chen joined the University of South Florida (USF) faculty on August 29, 2011. He currently serves as the Interim Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science, Professor of Biostatistics, Concentration Lead, and Director of the Study Design & Data Analysis (SDDA) Core at the College of Public Health. Dr. Chen has authored over 160 peer-reviewed research articles and has been involved in more than 50 clinical trials, including seven NIH-funded studies. He also serves as a biostatistical reviewer for NIH clinical trial applications. With more than 37,000 citations and an h-index of 58 (Google Scholar), Dr. Chen is recognized as a leading scholar in the field of Biostatistics. His influential paper, “How Big Is a Big Odds Ratio,” has been cited over 2,200 times by researchers in medicine and public health. His collaborations with investigators at Columbia University and USF have led to over 25 funded research projects, including 18 NIH-funded awards. Dr. Chen has taught a wide range of graduate-level courses, including: Clinical Trials: Design, Conduct, and Analysis; Fundamentals of Clinical Trials; Biostatistics I & II; Multilevel Data Analysis and Modeling; Epidemiological Methods; Biostatistical Case Studies and Collaboration I & II.
