The USF Health Transplant Research Center is committed to addressing the critical organ shortage crisis, with nearly 100,000 patients in the U.S. awaiting life-saving transplants, yet fewer than 50% expected to receive an organ each year. Despite advances in medicine and increased awareness of organ donation, the gap between organ supply and demand continues to grow, underscoring the urgent need for new strategies to expand the donor pool, preserve donor organs, and improve graft function following transplantation.
