Academic Philosophy

"Joining USF in 2009 as an Assistant Professor, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016. A native of Tampa, he studied Molecular Biology at Vanderbilt University and completed Medical School and Urology Residency at Johns Hopkins University."

Research Interests

  • Dr. Hernandez's areas of concentration include urologic oncology, prostate and renal malignancies, kidney stones and benign prostatic hypertrophy, as well as minimally invasive surgical treatment modalities. His interests include clinical outcomes research and resident education. He served as the chief of urology at Tampa General Hospital 2013-2015 and is actively involved in several ongoing research endeavors including novel catheter development to reduce CAUTIs as well as quality improvement in management of BPH, robotics and stones.
