Conferences
Protected educational conferences are held every Monday morning at USF Health South Tampa Center. All residents are excused from clinical duties from 7:30am to noon.
- 7:00am – 8:00am: Morbidity and Mortality Conference
- 8:00am – 9:00am: Grand Rounds/monthly journal club
- 9:00am – 10:00: SCORE-based case review
- 10:00am – noon: simulation/skills lab (rotating for each PGY level)
SCORE (Surgical Counsel on Resident Education) is a national curriculum initiative for general surgery.
In addition, each service/rotation has, at minimum, weekly specialty teaching conferences.
Surgery Grand Rounds

Purpose
The mission for Surgery Grand Rounds is to provide an educational format that has a broad appeal to USF Health faculty, residents, staff, and students. Grand Rounds consists of a broad range of topics that are presented by local, regional, and international speakers on clinical education, research science, developments in technology, and also addresses other related issues that may affect our current and future surgeons. Physicians who attend Surgery Grand Rounds are eligible to receive CME credit.
How to attend
Surgery Grand Rounds are held in STC 7th floor Conference Rooms and remotely via Teams. Weekly email announcements are typically sent on Friday afternoon with Teams link information, calendar invitation, and speaker details.
