Headache & Pain Medicine

Overview

Welcome

Initially founded in 1993, we continue to be one of the few academic headache centers in the country. Our main mission is dedication to teaching the future generation headache clinicians. We focus on clinic-based learning to manage complex headache and facial pain patients. USF-TGP is a large academic institute which allows for a broad variety of specialties to work together collaboratively.

Here at USF-TGP Headache center we offer a one-year United Council of Neurology Subspecialties (UCNS) accredited Headache Medicine fellowship. Focusing on outpatient clinic-based learning.

This fellowship requires the completion of an accredited residency program of adult neurology or pediatric neurology residency. Candidates with other residency training will be considered on an individual basis. Board eligibility is required.

We have a close relationship with our pain management, neurosurgery, neuro-ophthalmology, and concussion teams. Our fellows can rotate on elective with multiple specialists in our affiliated clinics including pain management clinic, neuro-ophthalmology clinic, concussion clinic, sleep medicine as these are vital parts in headache management.

About Us

Didactics

Our headache fellowship offers a blend of structured didactic time and immersive in-office learning to create a comprehensive educational experience. Didactic time includes lectures, case-based discussions, and journal club. Each week the fellow has in office procedural time to enhance skills. We also participate in headache Advocacy work with Miles for Migraine and initiating dedicated time to attend Headache on the Hill. We prepare fellows to manage even the most complex headache disorders with skill and empathy.

Research

Our fellows are involved in research with opportunities to attend conferences and participate in clinical research. Prior fellows have presented at national conferences, helped author book chapters, conducted their own research projects. There are also opportunities for teaching and collaborating with both medical students and Neurology residents.
