Research Interests

  • The overall goals of our laboratory are to discover and develop therapeutics for cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. For cancer research, our focus has been to understand the role of onco-immune environment that play a critical role in tumor growth and recurrence. To this end, we have developed methods and platforms to expand cancer stem cells (CSCs), identified novel drug candidates for targeting CSCs in breast, colon and lung cancers and studying their mechanism of action. For neurodegenerative disease research, our focus has been to study chemokine signaling involving spleen-brain axis in regulating neurodegeneration. To this end, we are developing in vitro model of blood-brain-barrier, in vivo rodent models, drug delivery methods and anti-inflammatory agents.
