The Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of South Florida and Moffitt Cancer Center, one of the nation’s premiere cancer institutions have created a training program in Cardio-Oncology for one qualified individual per year who has interest in pursuing highly specialized training in this emerging subspecialty of cardiology. Applications are accepted at any time and should be sent to the Program Administrators via email. Interviews are typically held in January or February for the July 1 academic year start.
During recruitment, decisions regarding individual candidates are made through applications, transcripts, scores on national exams (i.e. USMLE, etc), prior scholarly activities, letters of recommendation, personal statements, and interviews.
Applicants must have successfully graduated from a 3-year, ACGME-accredited, Internal Medicine Residency or Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship program and must be board-certified or eligible.
Educational Program & Curriculum
The USF Cardiology-Oncology Fellowship Training Program is a 12-month training program comprised of clinical exposure, didactic teaching and clinical and/or basic science research. Instruction will be performed under the direction of expert faculty primarily based at Moffitt Cancer Center. The curriculum is designed so that upon completion of the fellowship, trainees will be prepared to develop and lead a cardio-oncology program.
The fellow will be intimately involved in all aspects of the cardio-oncology program. Clinical experiences will be both in the outpatient cardio-oncology clinic and the inpatient wards at Moffitt Cancer Center. Fellows will also have the opportunity to rotate in specific oncology clinics such as breast, malignant hematology and bone marrow transplant. Fellows will have broad exposure to advanced cardiac imaging through the programs at Moffitt Cancer Center and the University of South Florida. Fellows can expect to receive training in cardiac MRI and cardiac CT, as well as advanced echocardiography techniques including strain and 3D imaging. In addition, the training program can be tailored to meet the individual interests and career goals of the fellow.
