Biography
Dr DeSantis is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. As an acute care surgeon at the University of South Florida, he specializes in trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, and critical care. He received his bachelor's degree from Florida State University, after which he was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps, where he served as an Infantry Officer with deployments to the middle east and the western pacific. Following his military service, he completed medical school and general surgery residency training at the University of South Florida, to include an additional two years as a post-doctoral research fellow studying hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation. Following residency, he then completed fellowship training in surgical critical care and acute care surgery at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland - Baltimore. He cares for patients at the University's primary teaching affiliate, Tampa General Hospital.
