Industry-Sponsored Research at Tampa General Hospital & University of South Florida

The Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Acute Care Research Team manages clinical research activities for the University of South Florida (USF) Department of Emergency Medicine, providing comprehensive support for industry sponsored and investigator initiated studies. Based at the TGH Davis Islands campus, the research team operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week within the TGH Emergency Department (ED), ensuring continuous screening and rapid engagement as well as follow-up of study eligible patients.

Real-Time Screening and Enrollment

Our Research Assistants (RAs) screen all TGH ED patients in real time during their ED visit to identify potential candidates for ongoing studies. TGH ED’s serves approximately 200 adult and pediatrics patients per day, offering access to a diverse and high-acuity patient population. The Acute Care Research Team also includes dedicated research coordinators and research nurses who specialize in acute care trials and support participant enrollment, data collection, study procedures, study management, and regulatory compliance.

Research Focus and Capabilities

The Acute Care Research Team oversees and supports a broad range of emergency medicine studies. Areas of expertise include:

  • Biomarker studies
  • Device studies
  • Early to late phase clinical trials aimed at securing United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval
  • Interventional trials
  • Pharmaceutical trials
  • Trials requiring extensive regulatory oversight and quality assurance

The team works collaboratively with investigators, sponsors, and hospital partners to ensure efficient study startup, strong participant recruitment, and adherence to regulatory and ethical standards. We are able to conduct follow-up of patients after their TGH ED stay during their hospitalization and after ED or hospital discharge.
