Biography
Dr. Lynette Menezes is a professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Disease and International Medicine and serves as the Associate Vice President of International for USF Health and Associate Dean of International at the Morsani College of Medicine. With the goal of training the next generation of global health ambassadors, doctors, and leaders, Dr. Menezes leads global efforts at the Morsani College of Medicine and across the USF Health Colleges of nursing, pharmacy, and public health. She has more than two decades of experience building and supporting international programs, faculty, and student exchange in over 40 countries across the world. As the founding Director of USF Medicine International and now as the Associate Dean, Dr. Menezes has been instrumental in establishing affiliations with more than 50 academic institutions across the globe. She has extensive experience building the capacity of physicians, health care providers and public health professionals in India, China, Thailand, and Uganda. Under her leadership, more than 300 Indian physicians and public health professionals have been trained in HIV/AIDS prevention and management as well as ethical issues related to health research. Additionally, Dr. Menezes has been involved in building the capacity of senior leadership as well as subspecialists of hospitals in China and Thailand with more than 200 physicians and administrators trained through these programs. Dr. Menezes founded the International Medicine Scholarly concentration for medical students which she co-directs and has pioneered a robust medical student exchange program between USF and 29 academic institutions that involves research as well as clinical training. Dr. Menezes’ research and academic interests include the epidemiology and transmission of HPV particularly among HIV-infected individuals and increasing screening and HPV vaccination with the goal of eliminating cervical cancer. Her interests also span other infectious diseases and ethical issues related to human participant research. She has numerous presentations, book chapters, edited books and peer-reviewed publications in these areas.
