Joann Farrell Quinn
Joann Farrell Quinn is associate professor in the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and the Muma College of Business and is the Academic Director of the USF-TGH People Development Institute.
Dr. Quinn’s primary research focus is on emotional and social competencies and leadership assessment and development.
Dr. Quinn is active in medical education leadership and was the founding convener of a special interest group, Innovation and Leadership in Medical Education, within the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) Southern Group on Educational Affairs (SGEA) and works with colleagues across the country on research and education on leadership within healthcare.
Prior to her career in academia, Dr. Quinn worked domestically and internationally in the capital markets and investment management industry for over a decade and is a past president of the Security Traders Association of Florida. Dr. Quinn has also maintained JFQ Consulting, an independent consulting firm, since 2007.
Dr. Quinn earned a PhD from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University with a focus on Organizational Behavior, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Organization and Management from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science from the University of Rochester.
Dr. Quinn is also a Pilates junkie, lover of good (great) wine and food, wife to Harold (“Q”), and mother to one human child (Ean, currently 10), three rescue dogs (all under 7 pounds), and two rescue cats (much larger than 7 pounds)
Russell Clayton, Ph.D.
Russell Clayton is an associate professor of instruction in the School of Marketing and Innovation, teaching MBA courses on managerial communication and emotional intelligence and is the Operations Manager of the USF-TGH People Development Institute.
His research has been published in the Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review and has been mentioned in such popular press outlets as Psychology Today, NBC News, Fox News, Inc. and Fast Company. In addition, his research has appeared in several peer-reviewed academic journals such as Human Resource Management and he serves on the editorial board of Management Teaching Review.
Clayton was awarded the "Muma Outstanding Teaching Award" (Spring 2023), voted 2021-2022 “Professor of the Year” by the Executive MBA students, and was awarded the 2020 Mid-Career Distinguished Educator Award by the Management & Organizational Behavior Teaching Society.
He earned a PhD in business administration from the University of Mississippi (minor in psychology), a master's degree in higher education administration from Middle Tennessee State University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Auburn University.
David J. Howard, Ph.D.
David J. Howard, Ph.D. is an organizational psychologist who is the Manager of Organization Behavior Science at Tampa General Hospital and is the Director of the USF-TGH People Development Institute. His research focuses on the negative impacts of technology on workers (e.g., cybersecurity, incivility); leadership and its impact on organization culture; and high reliability and collaborative just culture. He is also an adjunct professor in the Muma College of Business where he teaches executive Doctor of Business Administration students Multivariate Statistics.
