Education

  • PHD, Biochemistry, Cornell University, 1966

Academic Philosophy

"Since basic scientists in clinical departments have easier access to human tissues, they are obligated to explore complex issues, such as the tissue microenvironment, with new technologies as they train the new generations of physicians."

Interdisciplinary and Emerging Signature Programs

  • Allergy, Immunology & Infectious Disease
  • Cellular and Molecular Biology
  • Women & Children's Health

Research Interests

  • • Tissue-based interactome maps of human placentas have revealed interactions of VEGFR2, MDMX, PICALM and TRIM21 in chorionic villi. Protein levels of MDMX and PICALM correlate with clinical diagnoses of our patient cohort revealing their participation in metabolic networks that operate in pregnancy comorbidities, such as preeclampsia, diabetes and obesity.
  • • Cervical mucus Guaiacol Peroxidase activity (GPx) can define the fertile period of women. GPx can tag and help identify proteins associated with GPx during the menstrual cycle that could control mucus structure and function.

Memberships

  • Member (Society for Gynecologic Investigation, 1980 - Present)
  • Member (American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1970 - Present)
  • Member (American Chemical Society, 1967 - Present)
