CAMLS

The USF Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation is the world’s destination for the future of health care today. This transformative training center is changing how health professionals learn and make technologically advanced care safer.

SELECT

USF and Lehigh Valley Health Network created this futuristic MD education program, which welcomed its first class in Fall 2011. SELECT (Scholarly Excellence, Leadership Experiences, Collaborative Training) emphasizes emotional intelligence and leadership development with a distinctive curriculum to change the DNA of health care one physician at a time. PaperFree Florida

USF is helping doctors across West Central Florida move towards electronic medical records, which can improve patient safety and make health care more convenient. Backed by nearly $6 million in federal funds, PaperFree Florida invests in a whole new professional workforce combining health and information technology. [ Launch Site ]

The Villages

USF has come to The Villages, one of the largest retirement communities in the U.S., to help its residents receive the best health care possible. The goal: to create “the healthiest hometown in America.” USF also will conduct research to share the health lessons learned from this unique setting. [ Launch Site ]

Bringing Science Home

With a generous $5.6 million gift from the Patterson Foundation, USF Health has embarked on a project to help people with chronic disease live more optimistically. Starting by examining the lives of people with diabetes and their families, the project will apply those lessons to such diseases as arthritis and asthma. [ Launch Site ]

The Carol & Frank Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare

Built around quality, safety, technology and superior education, the Carol & Frank Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare is a place where systems center around the patient. [ Launch Site ]

USF-HCA Trauma

USF Health has teamed up with HCA to form a trauma network, creating five new trauma centers across the state and a new data analysis center. By allowing more Floridians access to trauma care and establishing a broader research base for trauma, USF Health is helping protect Floridians from the hazards of daily life.

Curing Malaria

USF public health researchers are working with Draper Laboratory engineers to create advanced devices for testing malaria drugs, including devices that mimic the human liver, to learn about the elusive liver stage of the malaria parasite. The project is fueled by $5.45 million in grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Psychoneuroimmunology

College of Nursing research exploring the connection between physical and emotional health, including effects of altered immunity on the brain, helped catapult USF from 66th among all colleges of nursing nationally in National Institutes of Health funding in 2008 to 28th in the nation in 2010.

School of Biomedical Sciences

The USF College of Medicine has restructured and expanded its graduate program in the School of Biomedical Sciences to increase research opportunities for PhD students and set up new master’s programs in several areas emerging as new medical professions, from bioinformatics to disaster medicine.

Brain Repair

Neuroscientists at the USF Center for Aging and Brain Repair created and patented a depression drug at the center of a $1 billion pharmaceutical and licensing deal. The drug, evolved from nicotine receptor research, could earn the university its most lucrative patent royalties to date. [ Launch Site ]

Byrd Institute

The USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute is one of the world’s largest freestanding Alzheimer’s centers offering clinical assessment, research, education and care under one roof. Cardiovascular Revolution

The USF Cardiovascular Institute, led by one of the world’s leading cardiologists Dr. Leslie Miller, is a program combining cutting-edge care with innovative cardiology research, including studies that will work to tailor personalized health care to individual patients. [ Launch Site ]
