Health Policy and Management

Welcome to the Department of Health Policy and Management!

Our educational programs prepare managers, analysts, and researchers for leadership positions in health and health-related organizations for both public and private sectors. The department offers MPH, MHA, MSPH and Ph.D. degree programs, as well as two graduate certificates.

The MPH is a professional degree program and students can choose from three concentrations (Health Organizations and Management; Health Policies and Programs; and Public Health Administration). The MHA (Master of Health Administration) is designed for students who plan to pursue senior management positions in health services. The MSPH and Ph.D. programs prepare students for health services research.

The MPH concentration in Public Health Administration and the Graduate Certificate in Health Policy and Programs can be completed through on-line courses. Public Health Administration students must come to USF Tampa for the comprehensive exam which is not given online or at an alternate testing site.

Skilled managers, analysts, researchers, and leaders are needed in all aspects of public health and health services. Professional opportunities for graduates are diverse and growing in hospitals, public health agencies, medical group practices, health plans, long term care, and consulting firms. Our applicants have varied backgrounds, such as health professions, business, social and behavioral sciences, life sciences, and physical sciences. Please contact us for more information.

Mission Statement

The Department of Health Policy and Management emphasizes excellence in teaching, research, and service in the areas of health policy and management for the citizens of Florida and the global community. The educational programs prepare managers, analysts, and researchers for leadership positions in health and related organizations, in public and private sectors. The commitment to faculty excellence in research and scholarly achievements is directed toward making important contributions to improve management of health agencies and organizations and public policy decisions that advance the health of populations.
