Global Health

Welcome to the Department of Global Health!

Thank you for visiting the website for the Department of Global Health in the University of South Florida's college of public health! We are a large and diverse department that is united around the central theme of improving the health and lives of the poorest people on the planet. Our department is the home of several highly productive researchers who are using cutting edge molecular genetic techniques to study basic molecular processes in toxoplasma, malaria and the human filarial infections. We also have research programs aimed at developing new drugs and understanding the mechanisms of drug resistance in malaria, leishmania and Naegleria fowleri (the brain eating amoeba). We also have strong research programs that concentrate on the ecology of arboviral infections here in Florida and the use of remote sensing methods to predict habitats for various tropical diseases worldwide. Last but not least, we also have research programs looking at the chronic health problems that are associated with development itself.

Please take a moment to view the tabs in the upper left hand menu to learn more about our faculty and their specific research interests, academic concentrations and available degree programs, research Centers and Institutes as well as resources for current students. You will find that we offer a plethora of programs and opportunities revolving around our central theme of improving the lives of people all around the world. We have programs that range from work in our world-class research laboratories doing cutting edge basic research on neglected tropical diseases here in Tampa to a chance to do field work in developing countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa.

As a department, we encourage both current and prospective students to become involved in departmental events. To the left you will find a calendar of current Global Health Department events. If you are interested in our department, please consider visiting us and attending one of these events. We'd love to see you there!

I hope that our web site can answer most of your questions about USF Global Health, but if you have any questions please feel free to contact us by email or telephone.
