Professor, College of Nursing

Professor, College of Medicine Cardiology

Education

  • PHD, University of Alberta, 1994
  • MN, Cardiovascular Nursing, University of Alberta, 1987
  • BSN, Nursing, University of Saskatchewan, 1985

Interdisciplinary and Emerging Signature Programs

  • Cardiovascular Sciences

Research Interests

  • Women’s Cardiovascular Health
  • Behavior Change Interventions
  • Cardiovascular Critical Care
  • Quality of Life and Cardiac Surgery
  • Genetic-Environment Interactions
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Dr. Beckie’s NINR funded study offers a cutting-edge, individualized approach to cardiac rehabilitation for women. In a randomized clinical trial, the motivationally-tailored program has resulted in reduced depressive symptoms and improved quality of life in women completing her innovative program compared to women attending traditional cardiac rehabilitation.
  • She also examined the interactions between environmental exposures and genetic risk factors in women with heart disease.
  • She is particularly interested in heart disease in young women
