Clinical Nurse Leader

The CNL program is a 41 credit hour Master’s program which consists of 14 courses, 3 of which have clinical hours,and one with a 300-hour CNL residency. Full time and part time program plans are available. Students may be admitted for Spring and Summer terms. We anticipate that all concentration courses will be offered online. The emerging role of the CNL is a national initiative in response to patient care needs and the current health delivery environments. Masters students will enjoy an in depth practice curriculum, as well as an opportunity for creative interdisciplinary collaboration. This cutting edge Clinical Nurse Leader program promises an experience for the masters prepared nurse to facilitate change in the health care environment. Coursework is designed to prepare students to affect positive patient outcomes by leading individualized, evidence-based, effective care to patients and families. Unique to the program is a CNL residency program at health care facilities that prepare the student to work collaboratively with other health care professionals. The 41 credit hour program includes advanced clinical experiences and courses designed to prepare the student for leading a health care team.
Role of the Clinical Nurse Leader
The CNL is a leader in the health care delivery system across all settings in which health care is delivered. The CNL assumes accountability for healthcare outcomes for a specific group of clients within a unit or setting through the assimilation and application of research-based information to design, implement, and evaluate client plans of care. The CNL is a provider and a manager of care at the point of care to individuals and cohorts. The CNL designs, implements, and evaluates client care by coordinating, delegating and supervising the care provided by the health care team, including licensed nurses, technicians and other health professionals.
