Social Determinants of Health

Pregnant woman surrounded by a house, briefcase, book, and puzzle. Symbolizes social determinants of health, or the places where we live, work, learn, and play.According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Social determinants of health (SDOH) are conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, and play that affect a wide  range of health and quality-of life-risks and outcomes.”

FPQC is working with stakeholders (patients, families, clinicians, and community organizations) to form an advisory group and develop a quality improvement initiative to assist hospitals in addressing a myriad of organizational, social and environmental factors that influence maternal health behaviors and outcomes. The hospital kickoff is planned for April 2023.

New Florida State Statute Requiring FPQC Participation

*A new state statute requires participation by maternity units in at least two FPQC initiatives. On August 23, 2022, FPQC hosted a webinar where we shared information with hospital teams about opportunities for participation. SDOH Initiative, Postpartum Access and Continuity of Care (PACC) Initiative, and Perinatal Quality Indicators (PQI) participation can contribute to the fulfillment of this requirement.
