The University of South Florida (USF) & Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Concurrent Program allows students to enroll in select RN to BSN courses at USF as non-degree-seeking students while completing the ASN degree at HCC. Students will remain in non-degree status at USF until awarded the ASN. After graduating from HCC’s ASN program, students will be eligible to sit for the national licensure exam for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN).
A nationwide nursing shortage means an abundance of career choices are available to students pursuing a nursing degree. HCC students who qualify have the opportunity to transfer into the BS program at the USF College of Nursing. The collaboration between HCC and USF provides expanded clinical opportunities for students, enabling them to gain valuable work experience and fills the gap of nurses with baccalaureate degrees vitally needed by the community, state and country.
The USF/HCC Concurrent program prepares current registered nurses, educated through an associate degree in nursing, to maximize effective patient care, to provide career mobility and advancement, and to provide the foundation for potential advanced education. Guided by the Institute of Medicine’s Report on The Future of Nursing (2013), many hospitals are increasing the emphasis and/or placing full emphasis on hiring baccalaureate prepared nurses. The USF/HCC Concurrent option provides a high-quality online education for nurses to advance their practice within clinical areas, nursing management, and beyond. The degree also opens doors for the pursuit of graduate studies in nursing – Master’s, DNP and PhD.

Qualified applicants, once admitted into HCC's ASN program, will be contacted by HCC regarding to the application process for the USF/HCC Concurrent Program.
Please review HCC's Nursing Program requirements and deadlines for admission into the ASN program. This information can be found on HCC's website.
If admitted to the USF/HCC Concurrent Program, additional steps may be required to progress. This may include applications, medical documentation, transcripts, residency documentation, background check, etc.
The program is only available to students admitted to HCC's ASN Program for the upcoming Fall or Spring semester.
How do I apply to the USF/HCC Concurrent Program?
Students
are only considered for the concurrent program if they are admitted to HCC's ASN program for either the Fall or Spring. Once admitted to HCC's ASN program during
an appropriate semester, students will be invited to an Information Session
held on the HCC's campus where complete details about the program structure and
progression policies will be shared. After the Information Session, the USF
undergraduate admissions advisor will submit the list of students who attended
the Information Session to HCC Advisors for evaluation. HCC determines who is eligible for the concurrent program based on their GPA calculations. Once HCC
identifies the students who are eligible, the USF undergraduate admissions
advisor will reach out to those students and invite them to an orientation at
USF where they will complete their non-degree-seeking applications to USF.
When do I apply to USF as a degree-seeking student to finish my BSN?
Students will apply to USF as
degree-seeking students during their last semester at HCC. After graduation,
HCC sends all of the concurrent students' ASN transcripts to USF Undergraduate
Admissions for evaluation. Once the concurrent students are admitted to USF,
they will be required to complete a USF College of Nursing SOAR application.
