    Labor and Delivery Residency Opportunity at HCA – St. Petersburg General Hospital
    Program Begins March 18, 2019

    BSN Required

    The HCA Nurse Residency Program will provide education, support and guidance to new graduate nurses as they begin their careers in HCA Healthcare hospitals. It is a yearlong, extensive clinical orientation (StaRN) and professional development curriculum for new graduate nurses that culminates in an evidence-based capstone project.

    StaRN Women’s Services Labor & Delivery (16-weeks):

    Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses

    The StaRN Program is primarily designed to provide the graduate nurse with the tools necessary to succeed in today’s hospital environment. StaRN will assist the graduate nurse with the transition out of the classroom setting onto the unit by providing the 5-weeks of didactic and simulation training, as well as 11-weeks of hands on training with a facility preceptor on the nursing unit. The didactic training introduces nurses to core curriculum and hospital initiatives in a classroom setting. Whereas the simulation training reinforces nursing skills learned in a didactic setting.

    Certifications achieved:
    Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification, Electrocardiogram (ECG) Dysrhythmia Interpretation, NIH Stroke Scale Certification, Meditech Modules

    The schedule during the first portion of the StaRN is Monday through Friday, 8-hours a day, 40 hours a week. The preceptorship portion of the program consists of three 12-hour shifts at the hospital. Attendance is mandatory for the entire program.

    Program acceptance requires a minimum two (2) year, full time commitment to the hospital.

    Professional Development Program (remaining 9 months):
    • Paired with a trained mentor for integration and socialization into the culture of professional nursing
    • Monthly resident seminars following a core curriculum for professional development
    • Completion of an evidence-based poster presentation
    • Obtain Charge Nurse and Preceptor skills

    Job Description:

    Tidewell Hospice, the sole provider of hospice services in four counties of sunny Southwest Florida, is seeking an experienced and team-oriented RN Case Manager.

    The RN Case Manager creates and maintains a plan of care, serving as the coordinator for patient and family interaction with Tidewell for the duration of the patient’s hospice experience. When a patient and loved ones think of Tidewell Hospice, they will think first of the RN Case Manager. The case manager must be able to listen, observe, communicate and sensitively provide nursing services in emotionally intense situations.

    The RN Case Manager reviews and updates the care plan, physician orders, pharmacy profile and other records. The nurse also educates patients, family members and other caregivers about the disease process and decline, available palliative interventions, the dying process and safety practices.

    Applicants must be a graduate of an approved nursing program and own a current Florida RN license. BSN or MSN preferred. Minimum one year experience in an acute-care hospital environment providing direct patient care; previous experience as a hospice RN preferred.
