  • Seeking to Expand CRNA Staffing

    Expires: June 13, 2019

Mid-America Anesthesia Consultants is a group of 31 providers (11 MDAs and 20 CRNAs) seeking to expand their CRNA staffing. This is a non-medically directed practice and the CRNAs enjoy a large amount of autonomy. Their main location is Boone County Hospital in Columbia, Missouri (COMO) which is equidistant to Kansas City, St. Louis and Springfield Missouri. COMO was named as the #6 best place to live in the US by Livability.

Boone Hospital is a respected 390 bed facility where you can safely practice anesthesia.  In March 2019, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recertified Boone Hospital as a 5 star institution based upon safety and quality of care.  That ranking has only been achieved by 293 hospitals nationwide and is unchanged from 2016.  U.S. News and World Report has consistently ranked the hospital #1 in Mid-Missouri over the last decade.

The group is very collegial and actively promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect between physicians and CRNAs.  MAAC provides anesthesia services for a wide variety of cases including: hearts, vascular, thoracic, neuro, robotic, urology, ortho, general, gyn, OB, ENT (only bread and butter peds ENT).  The group also provides services in various locations including radiology, GI, and cath lab.  The majority of cases by volume are in general and orthopaedic surgery.  They cover the hospital and a couple of outpatient surgical centers.

Two anesthesiologists and two CRNAs are on call each night and on the weekends.  An anesthesiologist is in house and calls in the 1st call CRNA if there is a surgical case.  In the event a second room is needed, the 2nd call CRNA comes in.  The back up anesthesiologist is available if further help is needed.  The on-call anesthesiologist will do the epidurals and C-Sections.  The call CRNA may be brought in to help with the C-Sections if needed due to special circumstances.  During weekdays, the 1st call CRNA will come in mid-morning if the schedule allows and has the next day off.  CRNAs take call at home by pager or phone.  Weekend call is 24 hours and the 1st call CRNA on Saturday is the 2nd call CRNA on Sunday and vice versa.  The call frequency is very reasonable with 1/14 for 1st and 2nd calls.  CRNAs earn overtime after 8 hours on call and a daily stipend.

The total compensation of salary and benefits are excellent. The average W2 compensation for a CRNA in 2018 was $240,000 for an average of 45 hours per week.  This includes base salary, call stipends, overtime pay and a generous retirement contribution by the group (14% of earned income).   In addition, the group tenders a benefit package that includes all insurances, 6 weeks of vacation, sick day allowance and holidays.  A relocation allowance and signing bonus are also tendered by the group.  The range for W2 compensation including retirement contribution can exceed $300k depending upon the amount of call and hours a CRNA chooses to work.

COMO is home to the University of Missouri Tigers, a member of the SEC and UM is a major employer in the area. COMO embraces the arts and is host to several film festivals and other art related events. COMO has a quaint downtown with several microbreweries, boasts low unemployment at 2%, and has affordable housing. The schools are excellent as education is valued in the community and the city features many parks close by. Beautiful Lake of the Ozarks, an hour and a half away, is one of the largest commercial lakes in the U.S. with over 1100 miles of shoreline.

For additional information on this outstanding career opportunity, please contact our practice consultant, Mr. Gene Corbett at (636) 288-4003 or by email at Gene.Corbett@physicianfinders.com.
