Research Interests

  • Dr Maheshwari's research is focused on the mechanisms of inflammatory gut injury in neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis, a leading cause of death among premature infants. Specific areas of interest include leukocyte trafficking, cytokines, tight junctions, and macrophage function. Dr Maheshwari has authored or co-authored 95 original manuscripts and book chapters, is the editor of a textbook of Neonatal Hematology, Immunology, and Infectious Disease, and holds 5 provisional patents for novel anti-inflammatory agents. He serves on the editorial boards of several professional journals and is an active or ad hoc reviewer for many other journals and grant review panels in both the US and Canada. His laboratory is supported by the NIH, the American Heart Association, and the Muma Family Foundation.
