The USF neonatal fellowship training program offers a variety of didactic and research conferences to aid in the continual professional development of the trainee. Fellows are excused from all clinical responsibilities during conference times to promote these valuable educational experiences.
Best Practices – 1st
Wednesday of each month
This is a multidisciplinary meeting held between members of the TGH NICU staff
including neonatologists, fellows, nursing leadership, transport team,
respiratory therapists, pharmacists and Infectious Disease. Discussion includes
data analytics and ongoing monitoring of best practice guidelines in the unit
regarding performance improvement, patient safety, and risk management to
provide the best possible outcomes for our neonatal patients.
Fetal Board – 2nd
Wednesday of each month
This conference is a joint meeting between the Maternal Fetal Medicine and Neonatology Divisions, and consist of clinically relevant cases prepared and discussed by
the fellows of both divisions and facilitated by faculty members.
Board Review – 2nd
Wednesday of each month
A fellow led board review session with a review of the monthly AAP NeoPrep
questions.
Fetal Care Center – 2nd
Wednesday of each month
This interdisciplinary conference is held with neonatology, maternal-fetal
medicine, cardiology and surgery to discuss the prenatal and postnatal
diagnosis and management of complex patients with known anomalies.
Case Conference – 3rd
Wednesday of each month
This conference is led by a fellow who chooses a neonatal patient of particular
interest. The infants case is presented in its entirety and is followed by an
interactive discussion with faculty and neonatal trainees that focuses on the
disease pathophysiology and current evidence based practice guidelines.
Journal Club – 3rd
Wednesday of each month
This fellow-led conference reviews a current journal article of interest within
the field of neonatology. Under the guidance of selected faculty, the fellow
will work to develop the necessary skills for critical appraisal of the
published medical literature.
Journal Review - Monthly
Fellow-led conference in which fellows are assigned to peruse major journals to select important articles for review as potential journal club topics.
USF Perinatal Research Seminar – Quarterly
on Wednesdays
A multidisciplinary seminar including members of the USF College of Medicine,
College of Public Health, College of Nursing in which members share their
research pursuits for feedback and intellectual discussion.
USF Pediatric Grand Rounds - Thursdays, 8-9 AM
This conference is held
weekly and teleconferenced from Tampa General Hospital.
