Concussions, even mild ones, need to be recognized promptly and managed appropriately to avoid potential consequences, particularly in the young developing brain. In order to provide coordinated and high quality care to patients with concussions, in 2010, we established the University of South Florida (USF Health) Concussion Center, the first of its kind in the greater Tampa Bay area. We adopted an integrated, multidisciplinary and patient-centered system of care that was specifically designed for the treatment of patients with acute concussions or lingering post-concussion syndrome.
We believe that our specially-trained primary care physicians, along with an extensive network of specialists here at USF, can offer concussion patients the expert attention needed to effectively and safely manage their injury. Our dedicated team of USF practitioners consists of experts in Sports Medicine, Neurosurgery, Neuropsychology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Neuro-ophthalmology, and Physical Therapy, all working together to offer patients the most comprehensive care possible. Recovery from concussions can be complex and sometimes slow, but we are committed to providing the complete care needed to achieve the best recovery possible.
