Primary Care Track
The focus of the primary care track is to provide comprehensive internal medicine training to prepare residents interested in primary care or outpatient-focused subspecialties for careers in community-based or academic medicine. We individualize the training to enhance the resident’s interest in outpatient medicine by giving them a minimum 50% of their training in the outpatient setting. Residents in the primary care track have at minimum 4 months of units but less ward time to ensure that they have outpatient electives in private practice general medicine, more ambulatory rotations in their continuity clinic site, outpatient rotations in non-medicine specialties that are important to the practice of internal medicine (e.g. sports medicine, dermatology, women’s health, pain management), and outpatient rotations in medicine specialties that are important to the practice of outpatient internal medicine (e.g. endocrinology, rheumatology, HIV medicine, allergy & immunology).
