Biostatistics and Medical Writing services are offered to clinical and basic researchers at the University of South Florida, to our affiliate hospitals and practices and to investigators in our community. The primary aim is to foster and facilitate investigator initiated research of the highest caliber in the areas of protocol design and development, data analysis, and dissemination of the results of the research. Services provided to internal and external customers have resulted in competitive grant applications and successful awards, abstract and manuscript publications, and poster presentations.
USF Health has initiated a fee structure for services provided by the Biostatistics and Medical Writing core.
For all investigators, regardless of affiliation, an initial consultation will continue to be provided free of charge. The initial consultation provides the opportunity for the investigator and core personnel to discuss the project and determine the scope of work being requested including the projected timeline for completion. The initial consultation is limited to one hour per project.
Service fees for non-USF investigators are charged at $50.00 per hour. This includes research projects by investigators who are in private practice, with or without clinical appointments, and core services provided to members of our affiliate institutions and other external customers.
At the present time, USF students, residents and faculty will continue to have the benefit of the core services free of charge. However, in order to preserve these services, USF investigators are strongly encouraged to include financial support for Biostatistics services in their grant application proposals whenever possible.
Within five working days of the consultation, core personnel will provide a written cost estimate to the investigator. The investigator will sign the Project Scope & Statement of Agreement and return the original form to the core personnel for processing.
Invoices for services rendered will be sent to the investigator on the third business day of the month for all services provided in the prior month. All payments will be made within 30 days of the invoice date.
An alternative for the hourly fee for service structure is available for certain grants and other sponsored projects. Core personnel may be specifically named as a member of the research team with adequate salary support for percent of effort budgeted into the project. The minimum suggested effort for core personnel on grants is 0.05 FTE. Requests for FTE percentage for core personnel must be pre-approved and centrally coordinated by the OCR to ensure accurate effort reporting.
Payment of service fees does not replace accepted criteria for consideration of co-authorship when meaningful contribution is made and the collaboration results in publication.
