Hesborn Wao is an Assistant Profesor with the Center for Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and Health Outcomes Research. Prior to current position, he was a senior researcher with the Juvenile Welfare Board (JWB) of Pinellas County in charge of reviews of program methodologies, logic models, and measurable objectives for the school readiness and success programs. Prior to JWB, he was a visiting research associate at the Alliance for Applied Research in Education and Anthropology (AAREA) where he managed a multidisciplinary team of researchers engaged in the evaluation of the Florida Voluntary Public School Choice program. In 2002-2006, he was a research associate in the scoring department of the Institute of Instructional Research and Practice (IIRP). He also taught statistics/measurement courses and engaged in numerous research and evaluation projects as a graduate assistant at the Center for Research, Evaluation, Assessment and Measurement (CREAM). Dr. Wao began his career in education with a B. Ed degree in mathematics (1997) at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He joined the University of South Florida where he received M. Ed. and Ph.D. degrees in Measurement & Evaluation, in 2003 and 2008, respectively. His research interests include the effects of social organizations on student outcomes, with interests including application of mixed methods approaches to research/evaluation design and secondary data analysis.
