Customized Training

 

The USF Health Office of Research Compliance can tailor research compliance training to the needs of your department or you individually.   Here are some examples of areas in which training can be provided:

 

 

Research Misconduct: What constitutes research misconduct, how to report it, how it is addressed at USF, and practices that might decrease the risk of unwitting or deliberate research misconduct.

 

Responsible Authorship & Peer Review: The responsibilities of authorship--who should be included in a paper for publication and for what purpose--and in your role as a peer reviewer.

 

Data Acquisition and Management:  Designing experiments that create meaningful and unbiased data; proper data collection, retention and sharing; recoding data in a manner that permits validation of findings; protecting confidential data in human subjects research and in research involving intellectual property; data ownership.

 

Conflicts of Interest:  Identifying and managing conflicts of interest in research; understanding specific requirements in governmental, institutional, and professional organization policies.

 

Safeguarding Human Subjects: Understanding the investigator’s role in protecting human participants in research; practical applications of ethical principles; the role of cultural differences in recruitment and enrollment in research; obtaining informed consent effectively.

 

Privacy in Research: Application of the HIPAA Privacy regulations in the research context and other privacy and confidentiality issues in research.

 

Outside Consulting Agreements: Are there limits on how much outside consulting you can do with an NIH grant?  How do you know if you are waiving University intellectual property or patent rights?  What is the University process for review and approval of outside consulting agreements?
