Did you Know…

  • In 2003, nearly 2,500 citizens of Tampa Bay died from heart disease, making it the leading cause of death in our city.
  • In 2002, 27% percent of Tampa adults reported that they do not engage in leisure time physical activity and nearly 57% do not engage in moderate physical activity.
  • About 25% of Tampa Bay citizens have high-blood pressure and more than 34% of Tampa adults are overweight.

DATA SOURCE:  2002 Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance Telephone Survey conducted by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Epidemiology.  Overall, 34,551 adults were randomly selected and interviewed for the survey; about 500 adults were surveyed in each county (FloridaCHARTS.com - Florida Health Statistics and Community Health Data).
