Professional Background
Cathleen E. Chadwick, MPH, is currently the Project Coordinator of the Maternal and Child Health Leadership Skills Training Institute, University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Public Health. In this position she is responsible for all facets of planning and implementation of 3-4 annual training institutes for 35-45 multi-disciplinary staff from Maternal and Child Health divisions of state health departments throughout the United States. Conferences are held in a variety of locations in the United States. She also coordinates evaluation of the program, monitors compliance with policies and procedures of the federal funding source, monitors budget, purchasing and communications.
Recently, Ms. Chadwick served as Conference Coordinator for the project, Preterm Birth: Etiology, Mechanisms and Prevention, for the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Public Health. In this capacity she was responsible for all facets of planning and implementation of a one time, 3 day, international meeting in October 1997 focused on the most current scientific research in the field of preterm birth. The conference included coordination of a planning committee and all arrangements for the meeting itself which included 79 participants and speakers from 8 countries.
Other professional positions and projects have included:
- Project Coordinator, Endangered Habitats League. Responsible to coordinate environmental service-learning, habitat restoration, and volunteer activities at the 3,000 acre Crestridge Ecological Reserve.
- Assistant Director and Children's Services Coordinator, YWCA/Battered Women's Services, San Diego, California
- Consultant: Southeast Asian Developmental Disabilities Project (SEADD), San Diego Imperial Counties Developmental Services, Inc. Responsible for writing and editing portions of Community Integrated Support Services grants for SEADD. Also responsible for editorial assistance in production of two other training manuals of the SEADD Proltural Casemanagers and Cultural Aspects of Southeast Asian Refugee Families: Guidelines for Effective Health Intervention.
- Project Coordinator for San Diego Services, Parents Anonymous of California, Los Angeles, California: Responsible to develop volunteer staffed support groups for parents who were physically or emotionally abusive with their children.
- Domestic Violence Trainer, San Diego County Sheriff's Department, Training Academy: Trainer for law enforcement personnel from San Diego County Sheriff's Department and seven other local law enforcement agencies.
- Program Consultant, San Diego Community Child Abuse Coordinating Council, San Diego, California. Responsible for coordinating production of a San Diego County Child Abuse Resources Directory, production of video public service announcements and coordination of a one day conference for 300 participants.
- Ms. Chadwick is the co-author of the chapter, Incarcerated teens talk about dating violence in B. Levy (Ed.) Dating Violence: Young Women in Danger, March, 1991. Seattle: Seal Press
Ms. Chadwick received her Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development from San Diego State University in 1978 and her Master of Public Health degree, concentration in Maternal and Child Health, from San Diego State University in 1989.
