The University of South Florida, College of Public Health is searching for a dynamic leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management. Nominations and applications are currently being accepted.
The University of South Florida was founded in 1956 and is a public research university of growing national distinction, serving 43,000 students in ten colleges on campuses in Tampa, Lakeland, St. Petersburg and Sarasota. Reflecting its breadth of graduate and research programs, USF is one of three public universities in Florida classified as Research I institutions by the Carnegie Research Institute and Florida Board of Education, largely on the strength of its health sciences research. With more than 2,000 Faculty, USF offers baccalaureate degrees in 79 fields, 89 master’s and specialist programs, 25 doctoral programs, and the doctor of medicine, doctor of physical therapy and doctor of nursing professional degrees.
Opened in 1984, the College of Public Health is composed of five academic departments addressing the full range of public health disciplines. The College also has seven federally-funded research and training centers. With over 100 regular and research faculty, the College of Public Health serves as a cornerstone of USF Health that also includes Colleges of Medicine and Nursing and School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences.
As one of only 38 fully accredited public health colleges in the U.S., and the only one in the State of Florida fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, the USF College of Public Health serves a vital role in preparing the future public health workforce for the state and nation. The College takes a multidisciplinary approach to public health—exploring social, behavioral, legal, medical and economic factors affecting public health. The Department of Health Policy and Management is one of five departments in the College of Public Health. The Chair will report to the Dean of the College, serve on the College leadership team and assume responsibility for further leading the department to a position of academic and professional eminence. Specifically, the Chair will be responsible for managing department fiscal and human resources; fostering excellence in education, research and service in health policy and management; recruiting, mentoring and retaining a diverse and talented faculty; and, contributing to the reputation and overall welfare of the College and University.

Minimum qualifications include: an earned doctorate in health policy and management or a related field; a record in teaching, research and scholarly activity in health policy and management or a related field that would support appointment in the College at the rank of Professor; and at least two years of administrative experience.
Preferred qualifications include: demonstrated expertise in health policy and management; administrative experience in a multi-disciplinary university; outstanding leadership and management abilities; commitment to and experience in mentoring of junior faculty and attracting, retaining and graduating doctoral students; the ability to create and support a collaborative research and learning community; an extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals relevant to the field of health policy and management; a strong record of external funding; commitment to faculty governance and collegiality; excellent oral and written communication skills; and, a demonstrated commitment to diversity.
