John Large's educational background ranges from industrial engineering, where his interests lied in computer integrated manufacturing systems and focused on production and logistical systems, to management issues in the health care sector.  His dissertation was concerned with the effects of Medicare HMO's on the profitability of Florida hospitals.  He has done projects with various hospitals applying the techniques of industrial engineering and management science.  From 1997 to 1999, John Large was involved in a grant performing a pharmaco-economic study in the treatment of cancer patients.   

John Large has industrial and health care experience since 1987.  Since 1994, John Large has taught undergraduate courses both in health care and business administration.  He has taught in universities throughout central Florida.  John Large began teaching graduate-level courses in 1999.  Currently, John Large is a Visiting Assistant Professor within the Health Policy and Management department in the College of Public Health at the University of South Florida.  In 1993, John Large held a similar position with the University of Central Florida where he focused on their satellite educational sites.

John Large's research interests are, among other areas, in the application of management science techniques in the health care market to achieve optimal operational performance and the analysis of governmental health care policies and their effects on health care organizations and patients.
